My Name is Tracy Weyer
Originally from Chicago, I bring a Midwestern blend of authenticity, humor, and straightforward communication to my work. I’m detail-oriented, highly organized, and direct, with an emphasis on clarity, objectivity, and producing work that is both clinically sound and legally useful.
I moved to California in 2008 to pursue my doctorate in Forensic Psychology and have practiced as a Licensed Forensic Psychologist since 2014. I spent more than eight years with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), including extensive work in a maximum-security setting with individuals presenting with complex clinical, behavioral, and forensic needs. That experience taught me early in my career to stay calm, ask good questions, and pay attention to the details—skills that have served me well ever since.
I then spent six years with the California Department of State Hospitals (DSH), where my work focused heavily on competency to stand trial. I progressed through several leadership roles overseeing jail-based competency treatment (JBCT) programs and later helped develop and implement the Early Access and Stabilization Services (EASS) program across California. I ultimately served as Chief Psychologist, directing both JBCT and EASS programs while also helping launch statewide diversion initiatives. Along the way, I gained a fairly thorough education in what happens when clinical practice, the legal system, and government bureaucracy all meet in the same room.
Today, I bring that experience to my private forensic practice. I serve on multiple county court panels and accept both court-appointed and privately retained matters involving competency to stand trial, violence risk assessment, mental health diversion, mitigation and sentencing, and other forensic questions. My approach combines extensive clinical and systems-level experience with careful record review, thorough evaluation, and clear, well-supported opinions.
One of the aspects I most enjoy about forensic evaluation is its investigative nature. The task often involves piecing together self-report, records, collateral information, behavioral observations, and competing or inconsistent accounts to develop the most accurate picture possible. I enjoy sorting through the noise—separating what is reported from what is supported—and figuring out how the pieces fit together.
My goal is not simply to produce a technically sound report, but to provide attorneys and courts with an evaluation that clearly answers the referral question and explains the basis for the conclusions reached. The issues may be complex, but the conclusions—and the reasoning behind them—should be clear.
